Supporting Young People Through Cancer
Our Work with Teens Unite
Teens Unite is the only organisation in the UK providing ongoing support to 13–24 year-olds during, and after cancer. They bring together teenagers and young adults who share the experience of cancer, helping them live positively with - and beyond - their diagnosis.
Cancer at this age can be isolating and life-altering. It affects mental and physical health, friendships, education, confidence, and independence at a crucial stage of development. Teens Unite ensures that young people don’t face this journey alone, offering long-term support through regular activities, short residential breaks, specialist programmes, and family support for parents and siblings too.
We’re proud to work closely with Teens Unite across several of their events.
The Teens Unite Family Bake Off
One of our favourite collaborations is the Teens Unite Family Bake Off, a joyful, light-hearted event bringing together young people and their families for a day of creativity, teamwork, and fun.
Around 70 guests take part, split into teams and guided by baking mentors to create their own show-stopping bakes. Each team presents their creation to a judging panel - including Amy - for tasting, feedback, and encouragement.
Judging is intentionally relaxed and celebratory. This event isn’t about technical perfection, but about:
- teamwork and family bonding
- creativity and confidence
- having fun together in a supportive environment
The day ends with the announcement of the Teens Unite Bake Off Champions, alongside fun awards such as Most Creative Bake or Best Teamwork - moments that create memories long after the cake is gone.
Cupcake Decorating at TYA Fest
We also had the pleasure of running a cupcake decorating class at Teens Unite’s TYA Fest, their summer celebration bringing young people and families together in a relaxed, welcoming space.
TYA Fest was all about connection - creating a safe environment where families could enjoy activities, music, creativity, and time together alongside others who truly understand their experience. From cupcake decorating to arts, crafts, and outdoor games, it was an afternoon filled with laughter, colour, and community.
Being part of events like this is exactly why giving back matters so much to us.
Reducing Waste & Supporting the Homeless
We’re also proud to support Maverick Humanity, a grassroots charity founded in 2022 that has already helped over 13,000 people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability.
Maverick Humanity:
- prepares hundreds of fresh meals weekly
- runs a food bank in St Albans
- operates a Kindness Cart stocked with essentials such as clothing, toiletries, sanitary items, sleeping bags, blankets, and tents
- provides access to professional hairdressers and barbers
- offers dignity, kindness, and human connection to every guest they support
Any leftover cakes or cancelled orders from Amy’s Bakehouse are donated to Maverick Humanity, who distribute them to people experiencing homelessness. This ensures that nothing goes to waste - and that our bakes can still bring comfort and joy when plans change.
As a small but mighty organisation, the team behind Maverick Humanity has been supporting homeless communities in London for over a decade, and we’re honoured to play a small part in their work.
Beyond our long-term charity partnerships, we aim to give back 10-15 times each year through:
- donated celebration cakes
- raffle prizes
- free bakes for charity events
- community initiatives
Whether it’s supporting a fundraiser, a local cause, or a national charity, we’re always looking for ways to use what we do best to make a positive impact.
Other Charities We’ve Supported
Alongside our ongoing partnerships, we’re proud to have supported a wide range of charities through cake donations, raffle prizes, free bakes, and event support. Each cause reflects our commitment to community, care, and compassion.
These include:
- Maverick Humanity – Supporting people experiencing homelessness through food redistribution and essential supplies
- Teens Unite – Supporting teenagers and young adults living with and beyond cancer
- Childs Hill Food Bank – Helping provide food to families in need within the local community
- Grief Encounter – Supporting children and families affected by the death of a parent or sibling
- Make-A-Wish UK – Helping create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses
- Hertsmere Mencap – Supporting people with learning disabilities and their families
- Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity – Supporting the life-saving work of GOSH and its patients
We’re incredibly grateful to each organisation for the work they do, and for the opportunity to support them in our own small but meaningful way.
Why It Matters to Us
Cakes are about celebration - but community matters just as much.
We believe businesses have a responsibility to give back where they can, and we’re proud to support causes that focus on dignity, joy, togetherness, and hope.
If you’re organising a charity event or would like to collaborate, we’d love to hear from you.
